Top 5 Electrolyte Drinks for POTS & Dysautonomia

For POTS/dysautonomia patients, staying properly hydrated is often essential managing symptoms. The first line of treatment for POTS is typically adding extra salt and liquids to your diet to help boost your blood volume. Some doctors recommend consuming up to 10 grams of salt a day and up to 2 liters of fluid. That's a lot of salt and water!

There are so many electrolyte drinks out there, but most of them don't have a very high sodium content. After doing my own research and asking for recommendations from you, I compiled a list of some of the best electrolyte drinks out there for POTS patients (aka electrolyte drinks with LOTS of sodium)!

1) Liquid IV (500mg of sodium per serving)

In my opinion, Liquid IV is the best tasting electrolyte drink for having such a high sodium content (500mg per serving). Liquid IV claims to offer 2-3x the hydration than water by itself. There are several great flavors available including: passionfruit, lemon lime, and acai berry. The one downside is that they don't have any sugar free options. But if that doesn't worry you, this may be the perfect electrolyte drink for you!

2) Nuun Tablets (300mg sodium per serving)

Nuun has a great selection of flavors for their electrolyte drink tablets. All you have to do is drop a tablet into your water and you'll have a tasty drink full of vitamins and electrolytes! And they don't have any added sugars. You will definitely like Nuun if you're into fizzy/bubbly drinks.

3) Banana Bag (410mg sodium per serving)

I've tried Banana Bag "Oral Solution" and I have to admit, I didn't love the taste of it. But some people swear by it. If it helps you feel better, then who cares if it doesn't taste great? The makers claim it can reduce the need for IV hydration, which is huge for POTS patients. Its packed full of vitamins and electrolytes. Let us know what you think!

3) DripDrop (330mg sodium per serving)

DripDrop has become really popular among POTS patients, because of its great taste and high electrolyte contents. The powder comes in individual packets, so its very easy to take with you on the go! It comes in many delicious flavors including: watermelon, berry, lemon, and orange. If you're not sure which flavor you'll like best, you can buy the assorted flavors pack!

4) Pedialyte (650mg sodium per serving)

Pedialyte has the highest contents of sodium per serving of any electrolyte drink I've found. Doctors often recommend Pedialyte for POTS patients and others who struggle with hydration (and they see great results)! There are other flavors and varieties of pedialyte, but this is the kind with the most electrolytes. It might not be the best tasting drink around, but for how much salt is packed in it, it tastes pretty darn good!

5) XTEND Electrolytes + Muscle Recovery (220mg of sodium per serving)

If you're looking for an electrolyte drink that tastes really good, this is the one. Everyone in my family loves it! XTEND mango madness has 30 servings per container, one scoop per serving. Unfortunately, it doesn't have quite as high of sodium content as the other drinks...with 220mg sodium per serving. But the good news is, it is less expensive than most of the others and added sugar free!
